Rory Turns Three!

Oh this Rory girl. It has been an adjustment for her to become a big sister and while she mostly loves having a little baby around she does not love sharing any amount of attention. We basically can't leave the two of them in a room together and expect it to end well, but we have hope that things will get better. I spend a lot of time being exasperated with Rory for doing things that she shouldn't (Like, really, an almost three year old should instinctively know not to bite a newborn baby, right?), but at the end of the day, this girl is still the light of our lives and makes us all crack up on the daily.
She has been super into books lately (insert happy dance here) and she's been loving Pinkalicious in particular (double happy dance). One day she told me that she had a "perf-tec" idea that she and I could make cupcakes together and maybe they would turn pink. Baking, books, and lot of pink?! I was only too happy to oblige. Rory loved being my little baking buddy and is actually surprisingly competent in the kitchen. Like always, we do our best bonding when Ada is sleeping.

One of the outings I am most comfortable braving with two kids is the library and we have been going quite a bit. Ada will stay asleep as long as I am moving the stroller and Rory loves to play with the computers and grab all the books. She is really getting into reading and she would read stories for as long as I am willing to sit there. Unfortunately she just grabs any book she can get her hands on so I always end up reading quite a few duds, and heaven help me if I have to read one more Curious George book. Why on earth are they so long?! Rory knows I hate them and has started sneaking them in to our piles when she thinks I won't notice, which is extra funny because she thinks they are just as boring as I do. Sometimes we meet McKenna and Emily at the library and that adds in a lot more yelling and chasing into the mix. Also the picture on the couch is Rory reading Pinkalicious while watching Pinkalicious.

It's basically become a regular part of our week to lunch at Costco after shopping. Which I'm sure it is for a lot of people, but I mean literally we do not miss a week. I feel like that's just an important thing to remember about our family right now.

And now it's time for another edition of "Pretending Rebecca's Extravagant Birthday Party is also Rory's Birthday Party so that We Don't Have to Pay One". Rebecca had Cinderella and Belle come to her party that was held at the dance studio. All the girls dressed like princesses and they got to do a story time, face painting, a dance party, and learn how to be a princess. Plus the party ended with donuts. It was adorable and didn't cost us a cent. Thank heavens Grammy had bought Rory this dress up dress so she would have something to wear. I panicked over her not having a crown to wear which is silly, But I also definitely ordered one on Amazon anyways and it didn't end up coming in time. I rushed to Dollar Tree to pick one up because I am a lame-o (and just really didn't want her to be left out!) and after this first picture I took of her at the party, she quickly took of the crown and said, "Mom, remember how Elsa throws her crown?" and then threw her crown and wouldn't wear it the rest of the time. Her dress was definitely a knock off Cinderella, but it was blue so it was good enough for Rory to consider it her Elsa dress. When Cinderella the princess complimented her dress, Rory said, "Thanks, I'm Elsa." It was amazing. Rebecca spent most of the party asking to open more presents or changing into a different princess dress. I think by the end of the two hour party she had worn at least 5 different dresses.
Rebecca was the first to get her face painted and she wanted to be a princess with a kitty face. Every girl after that asked for various colors of kitty princesses. When it was Rory's turn she asked for purple butterfly, and I was surprised but also so pleased she went against the grain. As soon as she was done she ran to the mirror to check out Cinderella's handiwork and was baffled to find that she did not have a crown and kitty face like all the other girls. My little trail blazer.
Rory had the best time and there's nothing better than a birthday party you don't have to throw yourself. (Plus I thoroughly enjoyed NOT being the princess entertainment this year.)

Like I said, Rory may not like sharing the attention but boy does she love this little baby nugget. We are all loving Ada so so much. I love all that sleepy newborn goodness.

Rebecca got Rory an Elsa dress for her birthday and as you can imagine it was about the best thing that has ever happened to her ever. I love that when she puts it on I can just see her imagination come to life and she feels like the most beautiful girl in the world. It is the best.
My big birthday project this year was her Elsa cake. It was nutella churro flavored and I love how it turned out (though I regret how many times I yelled, "Don't touch that!"). Rory was so excited about it and we loved celebrating her as a family.

Three year old Rory is sassy and so so smart. She does things to purposely push buttons because she can. She will have you pulling out your hair one minute and tugging on your heart strings the next. Her love for her dad is so strong. They are best friends and thick as thieves most days. When she's sad or hurt, I'm the one she calls for and I will take what I can get. We love you Florence!
