This year I was called to be a co-director for our ward girls camp, and that means our first task was to fund raise for camp, everyone's most favorite thing in the world. I missed the Team Dance Idaho Falls event because it was the one weekend we could use for the fund raiser and we got to work planning. We decided on doing a car wash and bake sale and I have never been more nervous about a single event in my whole life. I can't even begin to count the number of panicked phone calls my mom and sisters received that month. What made matters worse was that just a few days before we found out that a funeral had needed to be scheduled right during our car wash so we had to change the time without any time to advertise. I basically went into the day resigned to the fact that I was going to be paying a lot of my own money to make this girls camp even slightly cool once this was all over. But oh boy, was I wrong. Heavenly Father was answering prayers and looking out for our girls that day. We had so much wonderful support from ward members and we even had a lot of people just driving by decide to stop in and support the cause. The girls brought so many delicious and beautiful baked goods that we were drowning in them. They all worked really hard selling treats and washing cars and I had to hold back tears I felt so darn grateful. The biggest miracle of the day was a man who pulled over next to our girls (and leader) who were on the sidewalk near the streets holding signs for the fund raiser. The man asked what the camp was for and the girls explained that it was a camp geared towards developing leadership skills and spiritual strengthening. He nodded his head, handed them $200, and drove away with a smile and a wave. What a heaven send!
And the best part? I stayed under the bake sale ramada the entire time and didn't even get burnt a little bit.
Once the bake sale was over, Stephen took Rory and I out to lunch to celebrate. We were sitting at a stoplight, car full to the brim of leftover goodies, when we look at the car next to us and see it is my cousin Ashley's family (they live in Utah). It turns out they and Cali's family and Sam's family had all been in Rocky Point for the week and were staying at Doug's house in Gilbert before heading home the next. day. So we brought them a box full of delicious treats and got to visit with them for a bit.
April was also a big month for Rory because she hit her 18 month mark! We were so excited to send her to nursery because we knew she would love it. So on her first Sunday, we walked her to the room not knowing how she would react. Well, she walked in, sat down at one of the puzzles they had sitting at the tables and didn't even look twice at us. We spent the rest of church sneaking out of our classes to peek in on her and see if she had decided she missed us yet, but she never did. We decided after some discussion that we should be more proud instead of offended. Oh, and here we have photo evidence that her top hairs can be put into a little pony tail. So cute. Also for your viewing pleasure, Rory and Stephen napping side by side.
Stephen has been working like a mad man these last few months and he had finally finished the year end on his client. They usually celebrate by going out to a nice meal altogether, but this time the manager suggested that the team take their significant others out for a fancy dinner on the company. The only thing I love almost as much as my husband is free food (oh, and Rory...) so I was over the moon when I heard this idea. We ended up going to Rodezio Grill, because it was close and something we would never pay for, and it was such a lovely night. We decided that ultimately Tucano's is better, Rodezio's Brazilian limeade is to die for, and that even after a busy season apart we both still really like each other.
