Say Yes to the Dress

Kendall and Michael are engaged! Well, they got engaged in February, but I don't think I have mentioned it until now. They are engaged, getting married in August, and we are all so excited for them.
As my mom and Kendall were discussing when to go wedding shopping, they landed on going the week after the Team Dance Boise event, because that next weekend we didn't have another event. My ears perked up when I heard their plans because it is not too long of a drive from Boise to Provo and Provo has some  great cheap flights to Mesa, so I hatched a plan and invited myself along on their adventure. Rory flew with me to Boise and was there during the event. The first day my cousin, Daishan, watched her at her house and the second day she had some of the young women from her ward come watch her at the venue. It's a little more difficult to have Rory there, even when someone else is watching her, because I am constantly worrying about her and having to be the lame mom. Like when everyone else goes out to eat at 11 pm after the event and I have to go back to the hotel to get my exhausted baby to sleep. But Rory discovered Hi-chews on this trip, so I think she'd say the sleep deprivation was worth it. While we were setting up for the event I was running all over the place getting things done while Rory stayed with the adults working in the break room. Every other worker I passed said, "Oh your baby is so cute, I just gave her a hi-chew!" Or, "Kylie, Rory is doing fine, I just gave her a hi-chew!" Or, "Wow, your baby really likes hi-chews!" When I finally was able to get back to the break room I found Rory in there running laps around the circular tables. I'm a good mom.
Rory is at a pretty tough travel age for airplanes so we were relieved that our flight had plenty of open seats on it. Even with all the space, I was very grateful whenever we got to get off a plane.

So after the event we drove from Boise to Provo with Kendall and McKenna Weech and thus began a week of adventuring! You may be thinking to yourself, wait a second, who thinks bringing an 18-month-old to a bunch of fancy bridal stores is a good idea? You, my friend, are blessed with wisdom. Rory, my sweet, chill, go-with-the-flow child, was a total nightmare.Seriously, this girl goes shopping with me on a daily basis and is usually pretty awesome, but I think she cried and/or screamed through almost every appointment. And trying to get her not to touch anything in the stores? Forget about it! The best part was watching bridal consultants trying to calm her down, talk to her, or distract her on any level and seeing their good intentions be met by Rory's famous death glare. Seriously, I came as prepared as a mom possibly could with snacks, games, activities, and treats and still it was just a total disaster. However, my mom and Kendall grinned through it all like it was still so awesome that we had invited ourselves along. That's true love right there.
It was a little trippy taking Rory around Provo/ Salt Lake and thinking about all my adventures there during my college years. Made me feel a little older really quickly! I had to take a picture of Rory on Kendall's bedspread because it was originally Courtney's, who used it while the two of us were roommates. Then she moved out and I used it for a time until it got passed down to Kendall. Ah, the memories. As part of our hunt for the perfect dress we even went to Mary's Bridal, where I bought MY wedding dress, and the same crazy lady was still working there. She had a tiny puppy with her that completely thrilled Rory.
Kendall looked gorgeous in everything she tried on, which made shopping with her all the more fun! She wanted to try everything she could get her hands on, and it was hard to even pick one certain style she wanted to wear because everything looked so phenomenal. I know for a fact that Kendall was way more fun to wedding dress shop with than I was because while I was fretting about too many choices and choose THE perfect dress, Kendall just leaned in and truly enjoyed playing Barbie for the week. It was seriously a blast, screaming baby included.

She ended up finding her dress at Pritchett Bridal and IT. IS. INCREDIBLE. I can't wait for this wedding to happen and 90% of that excitement comes from the fact that I will get to see her in this dress again. Oh, it is going to be a blast!

Between bridal appointments and bridesmaid shopping, we were able to fit in some delicious meals. There was pizza from... somewhere yummy, and Bryan even got to meet up with us there though he did not make the picture. We hit up Kneaders (twice), Cubby's, and a yummy grilled cheese place. Kendall also had us try Cravings cupcakes and OH MY HEAVENS. I seriously can't get over these cupcakes. I LOVE fancy cupcakes. I binge watch cake wars like nobody's business and if I see a cupcake store I have to stop and try at least one. And usually I'm left feeling like, "That was good, but nothing super amazing." On my senior trip I fell in love with Crumbs cupcakes in NYC, but they're not even a thing anymore! Anyways, back to Cravings because I NEED THESE CUPCAKES IN MY MOUTH RIGHT NOW. I'm drooling thinking about it. And look at all the cute unicorn decorations in that store! Mom and Rory had a little photo shoot because obviously they had to. We had to go for a walk that evening to burn off the grilled cheese meal and make room for more cupcakes.

At one point we stopped in at the BYU bookstore. Again, even though we have already taken Rory here before it was SO TRIPPY  to be on campus with my baby. I even passed one of my old professors, Brad Wilcox, at one point. Thanks to my mom, we loaded up on BYU gear so that Rory and I would look like true Marshes, and so we were ready for the season opener in Tucson in September! This is me trying to get Rory to smile by picking Cosmo's nose. Motherhood at its finest.

I was in Utah for such a short time and with such a packed wedding shopping agenda that I didn't reach out to all my besties still living there because I knew I wouldn't have a car and wouldn't have a lot of opportunity to meet up with them. Well, thanks to my mom's social media posting they all found out I was in town and every single one of them made (or tried to make for Taylor :) ) a special trip to come meet up with me. It was seriously the sweetest. Mady came and chatted with me at Cali's house while Rory slept and my mom and Kendall went out for probably more shopping, even though she would be coming to see me in Arizona in just a few weeks. We didn't take a picture together, but that is a super best friend status move. On our trip to Salt Lake for wedding party shopping we were able to meet up with Andrea for a few minutes at the mall so that she and Rory could FINALLY meet each other and obviously they were fast friends. Can't wait for this one to get married in August!

Because my mom was in charge of this trip and because she is literally the coolest mom I've ever had in my life, she managed to fit in an escape room and it did not disappoint. Cali's daughter Carolina watched Rory for the night (her daughters were seriously the best and were so good at playing with her- she was in heaven!) so that I was able to sneak out and party! We did a Harry Potter themed room and it was awesome. We were lucky to be joined by Potter-master Alyssa, and her fiance Vincent, so we made it out in plenty of time. There was one part that sticks with my in my head because I unlocked something and had to read my hand down a pipe to grab the next clue and I COULD. NOT. DO. IT. Like, it is a game and a room made specifically to do things like this and I could not get over myself and put my hand down that tube. I keep thinking of the girl who wouldn't go down the water slide on Amazing Race and she just makes an itsy bitsy bit more sense to me now. Luckily, Vincent stepped in and saved the day so all was well.

And just like that, our time in Utah was up and I had to brave another flight with a toddler. We had the best time and are now just counting down the weeks until Kendall and Michael tie the knot!
